Are you the type of person who tends to look at the negative
of every person or every situation? Do you see the glass as half empty? If so, join the crowd. The majority of people
will tend to see and remember the negatives in life. On some level I believe I
realized this as a young adult. Over the last few years I have attempted to
remedy this in myself and in others. One example is my Sunday School class
where I teach 6 boys and 1 girl ages 13-15. Every Sunday before we start our
lesson we go around the room and every person, including myself, will tell
something positive or good about their week. After a few weeks of doing this I
wasn’t sure if the kids enjoyed this activity or not until one Sunday morning I
almost forgot to go around the room and ask each student to share, until they
reminded me. Now they come into Sunday School and try to be the first to share their
positive thing from their week. It was hard at first but then it became normal
and something they looked forward to every week. My challenge to myself and to
you is this…for the year of 2015 take just one or two seconds each night before
bed and keep a running list of at least one positive thing from your day. It
could be anything from the fact you arrived at work on time (which would be a
huge positive for me) to a cup of coffee you enjoyed with a friend. Maybe it
was a good joke that made you laugh or a hug or smile you received from a family
member or friend. So find you a piece of paper, a notebook, or anything you can
keep a list on and start today. There is no better time than Jan. 1, 2015 to
start this challenge. It doesn’t require any exercise or giving up any sweets.
All you will need to do is think positive! I promise you this will help you to
feel better and see the brighter side of life. You can begin to see that the
glass truly can be half full and by the end of 2015 you will see just how positive
life can be!
