Today I was listening to the radio and the radio host began
discussing the 3 pets that can reduce stress in people. The first was a dog,
the second was a cat, and the third was the one that caught my attention. The third
one was a fish! Now, I have to admit I was so happy to hear this because I have
always loved watching fish in aquariums or fish tanks. Think about some of the
places you might see an aquarium or fish tank. You may see one in a doctor’s office,
dentist office, hospital, or nursing home, just to mention a few. Why? One
reason is research has found that watching an aquarium or fish tank can lower
emotional stress and can also lower blood pressure which would make sense as to
why we would see them in all of these stressful places. The beautiful colors, the sound of the running
water and bubbles, and the swimming movements of the fish can be relaxing and
can produce similar feelings of someone who meditates. So the next time you
find yourself feeling a little to stressed go find yourself an aquarium or fish
tank to watch or better yet go purchase one for your home and see how much
better you and your family may feel. It may take a little effort in the beginning
to set everything up but research has proven it will be worth it in the end. If
you don’t’ feel like doing it talk a friend into getting one so you can go over
and visit. Two for one …social interaction and the aquarium/tank. Both proven
to reduce stress.
Until next time remember to JUST KEEP BREATHING…
