Spirituality and Stress…
If history has taught us anything
it is this: when things get tough people turn to prayer and their belief in
something that is beyond themselves. Why is this? Why is it that when we find
ourselves at the end of our rope that we hit the church door, open our Bibles
or find ourselves on our knees in prayer? If you think back to some of the
worst times in our nation, in our states, in our communities, in our homes and
in our own individual lives we turn to God or a “higher power” for comfort and
relief because we believe. I came across an article written by Elizabeth Scott,
M.S. who is a stress management expert. In
her article “Use Spirituality For Stress” she gives 6 research-based methods of
stress relief that have a spiritual basis.
- Pray often
- Express gratitude
- Be intrinsic
- Be optimistic
- Find the lesson
- Use the law of attraction
These are some great ideas for
how you can use your Faith as a way to relieve stress. Research has proven that
Spirituality, Faith, Religion, and/or a belief in God has increased the healing
rate of those ill and in the hospital compared to those who claim no such faith
or religion. It also has been proven to have decreased the level of depression
in those suffering from Major Depression. It has also been proven that those
who have Faith in God in their lives are all around happier people and are able
to deal with stress when it arises better.
Please take a few minutes and
read this article by Elizabeth Scott, M.S. I think you will find it very
helpful in your quest for a stress free life. http://stress.about.com/od/optimismspirituality/ht/spiritual.htm
Until next time…just keep
