Do you think that experiencing a natural disaster or daily
stress would have more of a negative effect on you? Do you think that experiencing
a death in the family or daily stress would have more of a negative effect on
you? What if your house burned down or you had to move and switch jobs? Most of
us would look at these things and answer a natural disaster, death or house
burning down but we would be wrong. The daily hassles we encounter every day actually
have more of a negative stress reaction in our bodies than anything else. Why
you ask? It is because daily hassles are things we can never get away from. It
is constant stress. Larger stresses that occur in our lives may affect us for a
period of time but our bodies usually adapt, deal and move through the stress.
But daily hassles are continually there. We can’t get away from them. The
following is a short YouTube video my sister-in-law shared with me explaining a
little about what these daily hassles can do to our brains. I think it is worth
watching.
After watching this video how do you feel? One thing that
crossed my mind was this. If stress affects us as adults in this manner then
what in the world is it doing to our children whose brains are still growing? I
am a firm believer that not only do we as adults need to learn to manage our
stress but we should be teaching our children how to do the same. Research has
proven that stress reduces the ability to concentrate and learn so imagine how
the stress of school and life affects our children. Do some children really
have ADHD or could it possibly be stress? Something to think about isn’t it?
I hope this blog posting has given you something to think
about. Stress and life management for all ages is something I am really passionate
about.
Just remember to breath….
